Retirement Savings for the Working Women: A Systematic Literature Review

This study explores the evolution and direction of scientific discourse on retirement savings for working women, framed by life-cycle theory and the permanent income hypothesis. Using a systematic literature review of Scopus and OpenAlex records filtered through the PRISMA protocol to 51 articles spanning 1973–2026, it identifies three periods: the integration of women into the labour market, persistent structural challenges, and a recent focus on financial education and capacity building. Preliminary conclusions suggest that greater labour force participation has not automatically translated into economic security in old age, and call for gender-sensitive public policy, contextualised financial education and more flexible pension systems.
