Dear EDBAC Members and Students,
You are invited to attend the first Management Education and Development (MED) Webinar of 2022 from the Academy of Management (AOM) on January 31 at 10:30 AM (US EDT). This is a free webinar directed toward early career scholars managed through the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University. The first speaker in 2022 is from the Weatherhead School of Management and the Chair of the Department of Organizational Behavior, Diana Billimoria, PhD. She is an excellent and compelling speaker. Dr. Bilimoria is KeyBank Professor and Professor and Chair of the Department of Organizational Behavior. She has served on the Board of Governors of the Academy of Management, as the Chair of its Gender and Diversity in Organizations Division, and as the editor of the Journal of Management Education. Dr. Bilimoria has received several honors and recognitions including the 2019 Academy of Management Learning & Education Best Paper Award, the Scholarly Contributions to Educational Practice Advancing Women in Leadership Award, and the Weatherhead School of Management’s Teaching Excellence Award and Doctoral Teaching Excellence Award.
Dr. Bilimoria will be discussing the principles of learner-centered education and offer keys to being an excellent instructor within the context of management education today.. While the shift from in-person to virtual classrooms continues to challenge the higher education system, management education remains a noble profession. A pedagogical focus is needed now more than ever to maintain student interest and enrollment. However, junior faculty and doctoral students often feel greater pressure to perform research-related duties over pedagogical development.
The webinar is free but please register at: https://aom-org.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJAqceuvrz0qE9NBj_fUzMX0yREMAvb-39EQ?fbclid=IwAR0vSh_n3Qv_6gAWgxuXZhEOXs4FPcvDu8xu5G7OLkNs_CrE7Sn8fgLrmzk
Note: The MED webinar series consists of 2-3 webinars each year and is currently in its fifth year. Prior to Weatherhead taking over, the series was sponsored by the University of Baltimore's Merrick School of Business. MED is a diverse international group with its webinars attracting an average of 100-300 participants across the globe. The series has featured speakers from China, Canada, and the United States, including Henry Mintzberg and Richard Boyatzis. This year, the webinar series is focusing on a theme of "Reflect-Retool-Return" in response to the challenges business faculty faced in 2020 and the complexity of developing a 'new normal' in higher education.
